    This patient was sent for a possible retinal detachment. Extreme difficult view of posterior pole due to asteroid hyalosis. After B-Scan was performed it was determined patient did not have a retinal detachment, only posterior vitreous detachment.

    VA 20/20. In asteroid hyalosis, there is a space between the posterior hyaloid face and the calcified asteriod lesions. Use gain to differentiate between VH and asteroid hyalosis (asteroid still present when gain is decreased).

    Slit lamp photograph of a 59-year-old man with dense asteroid hyalosis in his right eye. Although this condition is often asymptomatic, the density of his asteroid hyalosis caused visual symptoms including floaters and blurriness. He elected to undergo a pars plana vitrectomy which resulted in symptom resolution and visual acuity of 20/20.
