    Description
Cytomegalovirus is a genus of viruses in the Herpesviridae family. Humans, in particular immunosuppressed patients, are natural hosts to this virus. AIDS patients have poor immunity and massive retinal infections are common. In this evisceration specimen, only the retina and the choroid are present. Note the necrotic whitish retina (arrow). The choroid is thickened and is tan-yellowish in appearance (arrowheads).
