This 60 year old man was referred with "macular degeneration". He was noted to have numerous fine drusen. Fluorescein angiography revealed a "starry night" appearance typical of basil laminar drusen. Although basil laminar drusen is a distinct entity from AMD and carries a better prognosis, patients with basil laminar drusen can develop pseudovitelliform macular detachment, as well as concomitant soft drusen and sometimes CNVM.
