Patient complained of a blur in the left eye during a 3 week period prior to evaluation, flashes ad been noted in the vision 6 months prior to examination, but the retina was found to be normal. Heart attack occurred 6 weeks prior to initial visit with a triple bypass operation performed 2 weeks prior to office visit. The patient had been taking Persantin, Tylenol, and Inderal.

Vision was found to be 20/20 in the right eye and 20/40 in the left eye with correction. The patient could read the smallest print with the right eye with the proper correction. The entire anterior segment examination was within normal limits except for a trace of cortical opacities in the lenses of both eyes.

During the 3 months following the retinal vascular infarction resulting in cotton wool formations in the peripapillary region, the patient's vision improved to 20/20 in both eyes with resolution of the cotton wool exudates. The fluorescein angiogram showed blocking defects from the overlying exudates and these cleared as the exudates cleared with the passage of time.

Patient complained of a blur in the left eye during a 3 week period prior to evaluation, flashes had been noted in the vision 6 months prior to examination, but the retina was found to be normal. Infarction in the peripapillary region caused a degrease in vision which improved with the resolution of the cotton wool exudates in the left eye.
