This eight year old white male was examined in March 1996, with a central lesion in the right retina. Vision without correction was 20/100 OD and 20/20 OS. In December 1996, uncorrected vision OD was reduced to CF 1'.
Subsequent vision OD with non-cycloplegic correction was recorded as 20/70-1 in June 1997; 20/80-1 in December 1997; 20/70-1 in July 1998, and 20/60+3 in September 1999.
Cycloplegic refraction in September 1999, uncovered a latent hyperopia of +2.00 OD and +2.25 OS for a best-corrected vision of 20/50-1 OD and 20/15-2 OS. The patient complained of discomfort on reading. Four prism diopters of esophoria were detected. Readers (+2.00 diopters) were prescribed for symptomatic relief.
