A 46 year old white male was seen with a history of retinal telangiectasia in the left eye. He was asymptomatic. Since multiple areas of involvement had been noted to be progressing, he was referred for possible laser therapy.
Laser treatment was performed to multiple affected areas of the left eye. When he returned for a follow-up examination 4 months later, vision had fallen to 20/200 in the treated eye with markedly increased macular edema extending through the fovea. Upon returning 5 months later (9 months after laser treatment), there was no change in the fundus picture or the visual acuity (20/200).
